A short story about perspectives. Enjoy! Her and her mother had always had a complicated history. Undoubtedly there was love but then there were subtle hints of so many other things-shame, jealously, adoration. Buried deep, she found what she thought were personality traits may have actually been learned behaviors embedded into her psyche by her mother. And then there were the secrets. There just seemed to be the constant unfolding of stories. Sometimes it was something simple – finding out someone’s name was actually a nickname. Or learning that she could in fact use the TV during a storm. But then there were times when things could not be so simple. They often tended to casually gloss over a familial history of adultery and abuse. It hadn’t occurred that these feelings and behaviors shouldn’t feel normal. But therapy will do that for you. Although sometimes it feels like to you when the boulder of truth comes smashing down. But nevertheless the resounding feeling between her and her mother was love. And now that her daughter was growing older, she understood her mother more. She could empathize. But really it was a deeper understanding of what it means to learn as you go. Perspective is an interesting thing. A specific situation can make you feel abandoned –deep therapy inducing abandonment. But as you age or somehow learn a new tidbit of information your entire outlook on the experience is new...
